Seven Strategies against the System

It is painfully obvious to a growing number of Americans that our democracy has been bought by nefarious billionaire money bags and their mighty corporations. They rig elections, bribe our so-called representatives, and run the propaganda machine of the mass media. Many of us feel overwhelmed. How can such massive collusion be overcome?

Worse, the murdering thugs from organized crime and rogue operatives from our own Central Intelligence Agency could be part of the racket, acting as violent enforcers intimidating our few true candidates and working as election-rigging experts.

Our overlords seem to hold all the reins, so it is natural for us to feel powerless. And, yet, overwhelming tyrannies have been overcome before. The trick is to use strategies which bypass or overwhelm the instruments of power. I have collected some of the possible approaches – a total of seven strategies – all of which we can use. Together they will work best. Here they are:

  1. Prudent Presidency
  2. Ground Swell
  3. Canceling Corruption
  4. Fixing False Choice Voting
  5. Fighting Election Fraud
  6. Third Party Pressure
  7. New Organizing Methods

1. Prudent Presidency
This is the least effective method of all. Presidential orders can achieve some things, but, even in the Oval Office, a single person cannot do too much with a billionaire-owned congress aligned against him or her. Still, having a friend of the people, better yet, an active organizer for the people, as our president could help. Furthermore, not lending our official support to gang members of the twin-party tyranny would send a strong signal that we won’t tolerate the corruption anymore. The signal might not drive all that many corrupt establishment politicians to mend their evil ways, but it would encourage more Americans to rise up and out of their current resignation. I recommend Jill Stein for your presidential vote because she represents the most audacious move. As to the establishment’s meme that the choice can only be between Hillary and Trump, imagine we went back in time and told the founders of our nation that their only reasonable choice was King George.

2. Ground Swell
Since isolated, clean-money candidates of integrity are not enough when surrounded by corruption and since lone champions of the people can be easily neutralized through massive election fraud, assassination, or physical threat to their families (as may have been the case with Bernie Sanders — in fact, the fraud is certain, only the intimidation is still speculative), what we need is a whole army of genuine representatives of the American people sweeping the influence peddlers out of their offices at every level of government, starting with the local and state offices, then moving on to Washington. Local offices and party chapters can easily be captured, since these are low-number outfits. With a bunch of your friends, you – who are reading this – may be able to take over one of those posts this very year. In addition, organizations are forming to train and/or fund or otherwise help people willing to run for office all over our country: ‎Brand New Congress‬, Our Revolution, …

3. Canceling Corruption
Corrupt parliamentarians will never stop their own gravy train. The task is up to us. Fortunately, this can be done through ballot initiatives. Anti-corruption acts and resolutions have already been passed in cities and states across the country by citizens working with Represent.Us. You can join one of 16 current campaigns or lead a new one. You may wish to take a look at the organization which does this: Represent.Us. There’s also Wolf PAC.

4. Fixing False Choice Voting
One of the worst problems is baked right into our existing system of plurality voting, which is the kind of vote count where you can only vote for one candidate in a contest of multiple candidates. Thus, our vote can be split across similar candidates and a minority of votes for a competition-free, unpopular candidate can win the day. Our twin party tyranny exploits the resulting worry about wasted votes – the so-called spoiler effect – to scare many of us into voting for someone we don’t think will really represent us, but who we take for less horrible than his or her opponent from the “other” major party, the infamous “lesser evil” vote. The race to the bottom, between the alleged “lesser” and “greater” evils, has, over the years and decades, steadily paved the way for ever greater evils and gotten us into the mess we are in now. Where will it end if we don’t stop this downward spiral now before it’s too late? One way out of this dilemma is to implement ranked-choice voting (a.k.a., instant runoff voting). In other words, a method where, when your first choice didn’t make it, your second or third choice of candidate is taken into consideration, much like in a restaurant which is out of your first selection, but lets you pick something else, instead. In our current election “restaurant,” you get the very thing you didn’t want forced down your throat. Plurality voting is a stupid system we really need to change. Another alternative would be score voting, in which you essentially grade each candidate on the ballot and the one with the highest average score wins.

5. Fighting Election Fraud
Our elections are the laughing stock of the world. We obediently march to our polling locations, push some buttons, and then walk away with the false confidence that our vote will be correctly counted inside a machine we can’t look into and which uses privately owned “proprietary” software, controlled by a small number of politically-vested corporations. We absolutely must return from this insanity (called “black box voting”) to hand-counted ballots. Most or all leading democracies on Earth have abolished black box voting because the ease of election fraud that comes with it makes hard-to-prove election fraud pretty much a certainty. Likewise, we need to go after those criminals who commit targeted voter purges and registration tampering such as we saw so clearly in the Democratic primaries this year, because the Democratic party was still less experienced at (and thus less sophisticated about) massive election fraud than the GOP is, which – in the case of Donald Trump, whom it didn’t favor – must simply have been taken by surprise during the primaries. A good place for you to start would be Watch the Vote. Naturally we should also modernize away from the electoral college to a nation-wide popular vote count in order to end gerrymandering and the other ways in which geography trumps the voters, plus to exclude third parties less from the table.

6. Third Party Pressure
Third parties, as “spoilers”, have been behind revolutionary changes in our nation, like the abolition of slavery. One of them (with Abraham Lincoln as the nominee) even became one of our currently-ruling major parties. Thus, with the ruling parties having become thoroughly corrupted, building a strong third party would be, once again, a good thing to do. I recommend the Green Party, which is already strong enough to simply need a little boost from us and which has the most daring and determined platform for much-needed change.  —  So, I would suggest that, before Nov. 8, you take a look at the various organizations and candidates available to you and then support those candidates and parties most beneficial to our fight for a sustainable society and planet — and liberty and justice for all. Here, for example, is a comprehensive list of “berniecrat” candidates. Some are Dems (a lesser choice since we must declare war on the establishment parties!), some independent, some Green, and maybe others.

7. New Organizing Methods
One thing that can help, when the octopus of totalitarian power seems to have placed its tentacles everywhere, is to utilize new technologies and methods, which the tyranny has not yet learned how to thwart. So, while, for instance, our mainstream media have been completely overtaken by the money bags and only a few outliers survive on the airwaves or in the press (e.g. Democracy Now), social media and groups who use them (like TYT), are still too new for that. Therefore, millions of young people were able to organize for Obama in 2008 and this year for Bernie Sanders. While social media, despite their corporate ownership (and despite the emergence of establishment-financed social media propaganda operations like “Correct the Record,” which may have paid trolls to put child pornography on Bernie Sanders Facebook pages and thus get them closed down) are still available to us, we can continue to inform ourselves on them past the corporate media black-out, learn about clean money candidates with integrity, and organize to use anti-corruption and pro-democracy strategies such as I have outlined here. We could also combine these new technologies with old-fashioned town hall meetings to organize and identify, plus elect, true representatives all over the country regardless of party affiliation — a true grassroots approach reminiscent of the original American Revolution. In the most fantastic scenario, we could even organize alternative (non-rigged) elections (just like you can already watch alternative debates and interviews of the mainstream-media-blocked presidential candidate Jill Stein), all in the public view, to replace our corrupt, false government with a new one which truly represents the will of the people, all in the world’s public eye. Ideas like the latter may seem far-fetched, but we have to start thinking big and move with determination to overcome the money bags and their crooks and thugs who currently lord it over us and are driving our nation and our planet over a cliff. When we unite, we have the power to bring about a bright future instead.
